What counts as a good aim trainer score?
The average player takes about 560 milliseconds per target on an aim trainer. Under 400ms is fast, 400 to 550ms is above average, 550 to 700ms is typical, and above 800ms is slow. Unlike a pure reaction test, this measures visuomotor speed, because each hit requires locating the target and moving to it, not just responding to a signal.
What the Aim Trainer measures
- Visuomotor speed: the loop from seeing a target to landing a cursor on it.
- Visual search, since each target appears at an unpredictable position.
- Motor precision, because overshooting costs a correction movement.
How the test works
- A target appears at a random position in the play area.
- Click it. The next target appears immediately somewhere else.
- Thirty targets in total. There is no penalty for missing, but a miss costs you the time it takes to correct.
- Your score is total elapsed time divided by thirty, reported as milliseconds per target.

What affects your aim trainer score
- Input device
- A mouse is dramatically faster than a trackpad here, more so than on a pure reaction test, because this task requires travel and not just a click.
- Target distance
- Fitts's law: movement time rises with distance and falls with target size. Consecutive targets that land far apart cost more time.
- Mouse sensitivity
- Too low forces large arm movements, too high causes overshoot. Mid sensitivity usually scores best.
- Screen size
- A larger play area means longer average travel, so full-screen desktop scores can be slower than a small embedded one.
How to improve your score
- Move and click as one motion rather than moving, stopping, then clicking.
- Aim for the centre of the target. Edge hits are more likely to miss and cost a correction.
- Keep your wrist anchored and move from the forearm for long travel.
- Do not rush the first target. The clock starts on your first hit, not before.
