What counts as a good sequence memory score?
The average player reaches a sequence length of about 9. Levels 5 to 7 are below average, 8 to 10 is typical, 11 to 14 is strong, and 15 or more is exceptional. The test is a browser version of the Corsi block-tapping task, a standard clinical measure of visuospatial short-term memory.
What the Sequence Memory measures

How the test works
- One square flashes. Repeat it.
- The same sequence replays with one new square added to the end.

What affects your sequence memory score
- Chunking
- Grouping the sequence into runs of three or four is what separates level 8 from level 13.
- Rhythm
- Encoding the sequence as a rhythm or a traced path is far more robust than memorising isolated squares.
- Serial position
- The beginning and end of a sequence are remembered best. Middles are where runs break, so give the middle extra attention.
- Concentration
- Because one error ends the run, a single lapse anywhere costs the whole attempt.
How to improve your score
- Trace the sequence as a continuous path with your eyes, not as separate flashes.
- Chunk into groups of three or four and rehearse the groups.
- Rehearse silently during the replay rather than waiting passively for your turn.
- Concentrate hardest on the middle of the sequence. That is statistically where runs end.
